Dolfi Trost was born in 1916 in Braila, Romania.
Together with Gherasim Luca, Dolfi was the author of "Dialectique de la dialectique", written in 1945. He also authored a work entitled "Le même du même." In 1941, Trost and Luca were among the founders of the Bucharest group of surrealists, which also included Gellu Naum, Paul Păun, and Virgil Theodorescu. In 1953 he wrote a book "Visible et Invisible." This book is about forming a new kind of revolutionary collectivity on the basis of what he calls a self-regarding or “cosmic” consciousness” made manifest within certain forms of dreams, as well as on the basis of a “spiritually heightened schizophrenia.” The artist died in 1966.
