    • Graduated from the State Pedagogical Institute in Chita, in the Far East, 1950.

    Career

    • Teacher, 1953-1954. Deputy Director and Professor of Philosophy at the same institute, 1954-1959. Professor, Chair of Scientific Communism at the Academy of Sociology of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1960-1968. Deputy and first deputy chief editor of Pravda, 1968-1974 and Communist, the monthly journal, 1974-1976.

      From 1976 member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. In 1976 took over editorship of Pravda. Doctor of Science, 1964.

      Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, 1972. Regarded as one of the Soviet Union’s most influential journalists. Supports Gorbachev’s glasnost policy.

      Was quoted as saying that ‘restricted zones are still facing the Soviet media in their reporting.’.

    Religion

    The hierarchical structure of most religions is anti-democratic, and thus offends basic human rights.

    All policy decisions should be made in the light of the continued, permanent development of the theory of Marxism–Leninism.
