Airikian, Paruir was born in 1950.
Involved in the Armenian nationalist movement since the 1960s. Arrested, 1969, sentenced to 4 years in prison. Released, March 1973, re-arrested, February 1974.
Sentenced to 7 years in prison and 3 years exile. Played an active role in the 1988 mass demonstrations in Armenia demanding the transfer of the NagornoKarabakh Autonomous Region from Azerbaidzhan to Armenia. Held a press conference in Moscow on the events in Sumgait.
Accused of inciting national unrest and rearrested 25 March 1988. Released and expelled, July 1988.
