Background

  • Andolenko, Sergei was born on June 26, 1907 in Volochisk in the Ukraine.

  • Education

    • Educated in France. Graduated from the St. Cyr Military Academy.

    Career

    • Emigrated with his parents during the Civil War. Joined the Foreign Legion, served in Africa and Syria. During World War II fought under de Gaulle.

      Many awards for bravery, including Commander of the Legion d’Honneur. With the French occupation forces in Germany, 1949-1952. On the staff of the Paris military district, 1952-1955.

      Commander of a regiment of the Foreign Legion during the Algerian war, 1956-1958. Deputy Inspector of the Foreign Legion, 1959-1960. French military attache in Vienna, 1961-1963.

      Wrote (in French) many books on military history, including his History of the Russian Army, 1967. Organized a unique department of the Imperial Russian Army at the French Military Museum in Paris (Hotel des Invalides). Active member of the Society of Russian Military History in France.

      In the 1960s published (in Russian) an anthology of military poetry (Stokrat Svyashchen Soiuz Mecha i Liry).

    Religion

    Religious leaders contribute to secular and religious wars by endorsing or supporting the violence.

    Views

    The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
