Iurgis Baltrushaitis, USSR Poet.


  • Baltrushaitis, Iurgis was born on May 2, 1873 in near Kovno (Kaunas) in Lithuania.

  • Career

    • Symbolist poet, wrote in Russian and Lithuanian. Printed his works in the Symbolist magazine, Vesy, collaborator in the publishing house Skorpion. Close to Briusov. Employed by Narkompros, 1918-1920.

      At the end of 1920 was appointed Lithuanian Ambassador to the Soviet Union. In this exalted position was able to help many of his former friends and colleagues. Moved to Western Europe 1939, settled in France, where he lived and died as a political exile.
