Bazhanov, Iurii was born on April 23, 1905 in Kazatin near Kiev. Son of a railway worker.
Joined the Red Army, 1920. Artillery officer. Made his name as a commander of Katiusha batteries in World War II, 1942-1945. After World War II served as an artillery commander in the Far East.
