Iurii Elagin, USSR Violinist, author.
Elagin, Iurii was born in 1910 in Moscow. Son of an engineer in the textile industry.
Studied violin with the first violinist of the Moscow Opera, Ferdinand Grabbe.
Grandson of a textile millionaire. Violinist with the MKHAT orchestra, the Vakhtangov and other theatres.
Arrested with his father in 1929 by the OGPU. Released, but his father was exiled. During World War II, in German concentration camps, then in DP camps after the war.
Moved to America. Settled in Houston, Texas. First violinist of the Houston Symphony Orchestra under Leopold Stokowsky. Vsevolod Meyerhold, Chekhov Publishing
