  • Fried, Oscar was born on August 10, 1871 in Berlin.

  • Career

    • Visited Russia for the first time in 1905. Guest conductor. First foreign conductor to be asked by the Soviet Government to perform in Soviet Russia, 1921. Moved to the USSR, 1934.

      Gave up his German nationality and took Soviet citizenship. His memoirs, Zametki Dirizhera, Moscow, 1953, were published in Sovetskaia Muzyka.
