Aleksandr Grechaninov, USSR Composer.
Grechaninov, Aleksandr was born on October 25, 1864 in Moscow.
Pupil of V. Safonov and N. RimskiiKorsakov.
Trained at the Moscow and Petersburg conservatories (1881-1890 and 1890-1893). Lived in Moscow, 1896— 1922. Professor of the Musical Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society.
Emigrated, 1925. Lived in Paris. Moved to the USA in 1939. His art is in the Russian classical tradition, especially of the Mighty Handful.
Left over 200 works, among them operas and music for Ostrovskii’s play Snegurochka. Also composed cantatas, piano music and songs.
