Vladimir Gubarev, USSR Journalist, playwright.
The first journalist to reach the crippled nuclear reactor a few days after the explosion in Chernobyl.
Reported everything he saw and heard. As a result, wrote a play entitled Sarcophagus. Although it was his first play, he managed to create a gripping documentary, which was discovered and turned into a work of art by Michael Glenny and Michael Birch.
The RSC staged the British premiere in early 1987 at the Barbican. The play was later shown at the Mermaid Theatre with the same success.
