Vasilii Vasil'evich Kandinskii
Vasilii Kandinskii, USSR Painter, art theoretician.
Kandinskii, Vasilii was born on December 16, 1866 in Moscow.
Graduated from Moscow University in law and economics. Studied with Azbe in Munich, 1897-1898, and at the Munich Academy of Art with F. Stuck in 1900.
Pioneer of abstract painting and one of the founders of modern art. Gave up his academic career to study painting. Lived in Berlin and Munich, and founded the artist group Der Blaue Reiter (with F. Marc and others).
His first abstract paintings were in the expressionist manner. Later introduced into his work geometrical elements similar to those of Malevich. Returned to Russia in 1914.
One of the organizers of the Museum of Painting in Petrograd and INHUK in Moscow. Emigrated to Germany in 1921. Professor at the Bauhaus (Weimar) from 1922.
During this period influenced by Paul Klee. After Hitler came to power, moved to France, 1933.
