Viktor Korchnoi, USSR Chess player.
Korchnoi, Viktor was born in 1931 in Leningrad.
Became one of the Soviet Union’s leading chess players. Defected in 1976 in Holland. Settled in Switzerland.
Has been playing since independently. His matches against the official Soviet champion A. Karpov became world famous as duels of political, psychological and physical effort. Fought for many years to bring his family to the West and eventually won.
