  • Krivitskii, Walter was born in 1899.

  • Career

    • Head of Soviet espionage network in Vienna, later in Holland. To escape Stalin’s purges, defected in France. Moved to the USA. Wrote articles on NKVD work which were published in many newspapers in the West.

      Found dead of gun-shot wounds 2 days before he was due to testify before a commission of the US Senate. A revolver and a farewell note were at his side. Officially considered a victim of suicide, probably murdered by the NKVD.

    The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
