Krymskii, Agafangel was born on January 15, 1871 in Vladimir-Volynskii in the Ukraine.
Graduated from the Moscow Lazarevskii Institute of Eastern Languages, 1892. Graduated in history and philology from Moscow University, 1896.
Taught at the Moscow Institute of Eastern Languages, 1898-1918, Professor from 1900. Taught at Kiev University, 1918-1941, on Iran and Turkey. Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences from 1918 until the early 1930s.
Wrote also on Ukrainian history. Wrote 3 books of poetry, Palmovye Vetki, 1901-1922, and the novel Andrei Logovskii, 1905. Was a close friend of Ivan Franko, Mikhail Kotsiubinskii and Lesia Ukrainka.
