    Career

    • First trained at the Riga Choreographic School. With the Stanislavskii and Nemirovich Danchenko Theatre, Moscow from 1956. From 1960, leading dancer with the Bolshoi Theatre.

      His triumph was his leading part in Spartak (choreography by Iu. Grigorovich, 1968). Choreographer from 1979 (Don Quichotte). Directed some ballet-films.

      Wrote articles for the ballet press on productions and personalities. Awarded the V. Nijinskii Award, Paris, 1971, and the M. Petipa Award, Paris, 1977.
