Iurii Vladimirovich Mal’tsev
Iurii Mal’tsev, USSR Critic, translator.
Mal’tsev, Iurii was born in 1932 in Rostov-on-Don.
Graduated in philosophy (Marxism) from Leningrad University.
Taught at Moscow University. Became an authority on Italian literature. Translator of Italian writers.
Human rights activist, mid-1960s. Member of the Initiative Group for the Defence of Human Rights. Lost his job and was put into a special psychiatric institution by the Committee for State Security.
Became the focus of international protest. Released and allowed to leave the USSR, 1974. Lives in Milan. 1955-1975, Germany, 1976.
