    Career

    • Professor of Moscow University, 1886. Left the university, protesting against the policy of the right-wing education minister Kasso, 1911. Professor at the Higher Courses for Women, 1911-1917.

      After the revolution, dean of Moscow University, 1917-1919. His classic work on birds of Russia and the Caucasus was published at the turn of the century. Popularized Darwinism, in his old age edited the complete works of Darwin in translation.

      President of the Moscow Natural Research Society, 1915-1935. Academician, 1929. One of the bestknown Russian zoologists.
