    • Studied at the Central Music School in Moscow, then at the Moscow Conservatory. Pupil of Leonid Kogan.

    Career

    • 1st prize in the Wieniawski Competition in Warsaw in 1974. Winner of the 1981 Sibelius Competition in Finland. Winner of the 1982 Moscow Tchaikovskii Competition.

      Defected to the West in 1983 together with Vakhtang Zhordania, the conductor, through Finland and Sweden. Has performed all over the world since.
