Frantsisk Olekhnovich, USSR Playwright.

Career

  • Imprisoned for revolutionary activity before the revolution, 1917. After the Civil War lived in Poland. Suffering persecution for his Belorussian nationalism, left for the USSR, 1926.

    Appointed director of the theatre in Vitebsk, but one month later, arrested by the GPU and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Exchanged, as a Polish citizen, for the Belorussian nationalist leader (head of Belorusskaia hromada), Tarashkevich, who was in a Polish prison, 1933. During World War II, killed in Wilno by a Soviet agent.
