Grigorii Leonidovich Piatakov
Grigorii Piatakov, USSR Politician.
Piatakov, Grigorii was born in 1890.
Joined the Bolshevik Party in 1910. While abroad, supported Bukharin against Lenin on several issues. Chairman of the Kiev Soviet in 1917, led the left Bolshevik faction there.
Member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the National Economy. Head of the tribunal at the trial of the SR leaders in Moscow, 1922. Joined Trotsky in opposition to Stalin after Lenin’s death in January 1924.
Deputy Minister (Deputy People’s Commissar) for heavy industry under Ordzhonikidze in 1930. Demanded the death sentence for Zinoviev and Kamenev. Was later accused himself of being the head of a Trotskyist centre.
Chief defendant at a show trial, 1937. Condemned to death, executed. Posthumously rehabilitated.
