Klengel. Soloist in the Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre, 1919-1921. Emigrated, 1921, and lived in Europe. Moved to the USA, 1930.
Soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, 1925-1929. Internationally acclaimed cellist and cello teacher. Composed and arranged works for the cello.
Taught at the Curtis Institute, Philadelphia. From 1957, at Boston University. Visited the USSR, 1962.
Wrote his memoirs, 1965.
