  • Ryi’skii, Maksim was born on March 19, 1895 in Kiev.

  • Career

    • Grew up in the family of the Ukrainian composer N. Lysenko. Specialist in Ukrainian folk music. Some 300 of his poems have been set to music by various composers.

      Translated into Ukrainian the librettos of operas by such composers as Glinka, Verdi, Rossini, and Tchaikovskii. Wrote neoclassic poetry in the 1920s and socialist-realist verse after the 1930s. Chairman of the Ukrainian Union of Writers, 1943-1946.
