Background

  • Sar'ian, Martiros was born on February 28, 1880 in Nakhichevan’-na-Donu(now Rostov-on-Don).

  • Education

    • Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, 1897-1903, under Leonid Pasternak, A.Korin, N.Kasatkin, A.Arkhipov and A.Vasnetsov. Pupil of K. Korovin and V. Vasnetsov, 1903-1905.

    Career

    • Landscape, stilllife and portrait painter. Also stage designer. Exhibitions: Blue Rose, 1907, Zolotoe Runo, 1908-1909, Union of Russian Artists, 1910-1912, and from 1925, regularly in Azerbaidzhan and Armenia. Visited Turkey, Egypt and Iran, 1910-1913.

      Illustrated Armenian fairy-tales, 1933. Lived and died in Erevan, Armenia.
