Viktor Borisovich Shklovskii

Shklovskii, Viktor was born on January 24, 1893 in Petersburg. Son of a teacher.
Studied at Petersburg University.
Started his literary career as a futurist. In the 1920s, the main exponent of the formalist method in literary scholarship, defending the right to linguistic experiments. Put forward the alienation theory, later popularized in the West by Brecht.
In the 1930s, had to capitulate before Stalinist conformism (Pamiatnik Nauchnoi Oshibke, 1930). Specialist in cinema theory. Wrote interesting memoirs on the turbulent art movements of the 1920s.
