Joined the Bolshevik Party, 1918, and the Red Army, 1919. Took part in the Civil War as a divisional commander. Head of the Zhukovskii Air Force Academy, 1933-1934.
Spent many years in the Gulag. Later actively involved in the fight for rehabilitation of former Gulag victims. Lieutenant-general, 1955.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
