Appolinarii Mikhailovich Vasnetsov
Appolinarii Vasnetsov, USSR Artist.
Vasnetsov, Appolinarii was born on August 6, 1856 in the village of Riabovo, now Kirov Oblast’.
Studied under his brother Viktor Vasnetsov, V. Polenov and Il’ia Repin.
Member of the Association of Peredvizhniki from 1899. One of the founding members of the Union of Russian Artists, 1903. Academician of the Petersburg Academy of Arts, 1900.
Painter and graphic artist. Specialized in historical subjects from the 1890s. Stage designer (Khovantshchina by M. Mussorgskii, S. Mamontov’s Private Russian Opera, and the Mariinskii Theatre).
Taught at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, 1901-1918. Head of the Commission for the Restoration of Old Moscow from 1918. Exhibitions: the Mir Iskusstva, 1899-1901.

His house in Moscow has since been turned into the Vasnetsov Museum.
