    • Joined the Red Army, 1919. Took part in the Civil War. Thereafter, served in the border guards of the NKVD. During World War II, head of the NKVD of the Karelo-Finnish SSR. Head of the partisans in Karelia, 1942-1944.

      After World War II, charged with the task of hunting down anti-Stalin refugees in Europe (Representative of the Council of People’s Commissars for the Repatriation of Soviet Citizens), 1945-1947, an operation controlled by SMERSH.

    The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
