Vakhtang Zhordania, USSR Conductor.
Zhordania, Vakhtang was born in 1944 in Tbilisi of a Georgian father and a Russian mother.
Graduated from the Tbilisi Conservatory as a pianist, then from the Leningrad Conservatory as a conductor. Pupil of Evgenii Mravinskii, and his assistant for 3 years.
Chief conductor of the Saratov Philharmonic, then for 6 years chief conductor of the Khar’kov Symphony Orchestra. Defected to the West in 1983, together with Viktoria Mullova, through Finland and Sweden. Has performed all over the world since then.
