Gaziza Zhubanova was born 2 December 1927 (some sources state 1928) in a village in the Jurun District, Aktyubinsk. She was the daughter of Akhmet Zhubanov, a university educated musician, and grew up in a musical environment.

Zhubanova attended school in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan, and graduated with honors. After completing her studies there, she studied composition with Yuri Shaporin, at the Moscow Conservatoire.
Trained at the Gnesin Music School, 1945-1949. Entered the Moscow Conservatory, 1949. Shaporin. Further training under the same teacher.
Her work has an epic quality, and shows some folk influences. Director of the Alma-Ata Conservatory from 1975. Lecturer from 1975. Professor from 1978.
Wrote operas, music for ballets, oratorios, works for children’s choirs, cantatas and other pieces.
