    • Owner cotton plantation, La Place, Macon County, Alabama, 1846-1875. Member Chunnenugga Horticultural Society of Macon County. Helped establish and edit American Cotton Planter (agricultural monthly), 1853-1857, combined with Soil of the South, 1857, editor, until 1861.

      Surgeon Confederate Army, 1861-1865. Superintendent public instruction in Alabama, 1868-1870.
