  • Overall, John Wesley was born on February 7, 1855 in Liberty, DeKalb County, Tennessee, United States. Son of Wesley and Arena (White) Overall.

    • Bachelor of Arts, Cumberland U., Tennessee, 1877, Bachelor of Laws, 1881.


    • Began as farmer and merchant at Liberty, Tennessee, 1886. Organizer, 1902, and president Bank of Liberty. Organizer, 1904, and director Bank of Auburn.

      Organizer, 1908, and president Overall Hawes Hat Company, Nashville. President Lebanon & Sparta Turnpike Company. Director Tennessee Bank & Trust Company Superintendent public schools, DeKalb County, Tennessee, 1881-1885.

      United States marshal for Middle District of Tennessee, 1898-1814. Member Republican State Committee, Tennessee, 1890-1900. Delegate Republican National Convention, Minneapolis, 1892, St. Louis, 1896 (credentials committee), Chicago, 1904 and 1908.

      Declined nomination on Republican ticket for government of Tennessee, 1910, on account of ill health. Received entire Republican vote in legislature for United States senator, 1913. Republican nominee for government, 1916.


    The Church is after all a movement which sought to inject passion, direction and purpose into the spiritual lives of the people.


    The longing for holiness is not about wanting to be 'holier than thou'. It is about wanting the love of God to permeate all of our life, and for that love to be shown through our lives to other people.
