    • Educated Tay Port, Fife, Scotland, until 1860. Learned engineering business with N. British Railroad Company and in father’s shipyard. Arrived in San Francisco from Scotland, 1869.

    Career

    • Engineer Risdon Iron Works, San Francisco, 1870-1883. Manager Union Iron Works, San Francisco, 1883-1905. Now consultant marine and mechanic engineer San Francisco.

      Took prominent part in steamship work on the Pacific Coast and in designing machinery for the Comstock mines, etc. President and life member Technology Society Pacific Coast. Author: Pumping and Hoisting Works, 1876.
