Henry Martin Brown, American banker. Member City Council, Providence, 1890; member Rhode Island House of Representatives, 1900-1902, inclusive; Mason (K.T.).


  • Brown, Henry Martin was born on April 28, 1850 in Bolton, Connecticut, United States. Son of Arba Harrison and Harriet (Dart) Brown.

    • Education high school, Rockville, Connecticut.


    • Began at 16 as clerk in dry goods store, later partner with E. Stevens Henry. Formed partnership with brother, ex-Governor D. Russell Brown, and Charles H. Child, as Brown Brothers & Company, mill supplies, incorporated as The Brown Brothers Company, of which was secretary, 1893-1899. Organizer, 1899, also treasurer and general manager of the United States Bobbin & Shuttle Company, owning many plants in N.E.

      President Industrial Trust Company, 1912-1924, later v.chmn. board. Officer or director many corporations.
