  • Bush, Asahel was born on June 4, 1824 in Westfield, Massachusetts, United States. Son of Asahel and Sally (Noble) Bush.

  • Education

    • Educated Westfield Academy. Began learning printer’s trade at 15.

    Career

    • Removed to Oregon via Panama, 1850. Actively identified with public affairs until 1859, when Oregon became a state. Was editor of The Oregon Statesman, the principal Oregon paper, and 1st state printer.

      Retired from newspaper business, 1862. Associated with W. S. Ladd and established banking house of Ladd & Bush, 1868. Trustee University of Oregon, 1882-1892.
