Hanchett, Benton was born on April 6, 1835 in Oneida Company, New York, United States. Son of Silas H. and Eliza (Dyer) Hanchett.
Educated Falley Seminary, Fulton, New York, and Cazenovia (New York) Seminary. Graduated from State and National Law School, Poughkeepsie, New York, 1858. Doctor of Laws, University of Michigan, 1896.
Practiced in Saginaw, since 1865. Became Chairman of the Board Bank of Saginaw, 1920. Also chairman Saginaw Clearing House.
