Robert Mills, American merchant, banker.
Mills, Robert was born on March 9, 1809 in Todd County, Ky. Son of Adam and Janet (Graham).
Attended Cumberland College (now George Peabody College for Teachers), Nashville, Tennessee, 1826-1827.
Fought in Battle of Velasco, 1832. Took over business (after brother’s death) under name R. & D. G. Mills, 1835, moved firm to Galveston, Texas, 1849 (in absence of banks, company counter-signed questionable notes of Northern Bank of Mississippi at Holy Springs, between $25,000 and $500,000 of this money circulated, resulting in company bankruptcy, 1873). Became partner Mills, McDowell & County, New York, also McDowell and Mills & Company, New Orleans, 1850.
