    • Attended Cumberland College (now George Peabody College for Teachers), Nashville, Tennessee, 1826-1827.

    Career

    • Fought in Battle of Velasco, 1832. Took over business (after brother’s death) under name R. & D. G. Mills, 1835, moved firm to Galveston, Texas, 1849 (in absence of banks, company counter-signed questionable notes of Northern Bank of Mississippi at Holy Springs, between $25,000 and $500,000 of this money circulated, resulting in company bankruptcy, 1873). Became partner Mills, McDowell & County, New York, also McDowell and Mills & Company, New Orleans, 1850.
