Gill, George Carleton was born on February 10, 1858 in Hinsdale, Massachusetts, United States. Son of Bartholomew and Mary (Dwyer) Gill.
Educated Carter’s Commercial College and Wilbraham Wesleyan Academy.
Began as office boy, Hinsdale Woolen Company, 1876. Learned paper business at Chester Paper Company mills, Huntington, Massachusetts. Secretary, 1882-1885, treasurer, 1886-1892, Chemical Paper Company, Holyoke.
Became president Geo. C. Gill Paper Company, Holyoke, 1892, Vice-President American Writing Paper Company, 1899. President Holyoke National Bank 25 years.
