    Career

    • Began as salesman in cotton house. Established R. J. Caldwell Company and Connecticut Mills Company, 1910, Canadian Connecticut Cotton Mills, R. J. Caldwell, Ltd., and Connecticut Cottons Company, 1913. Retired from active business.

      Formerly director of many corporations and of Seaboard National Bank. Member of council of Profit Sharing Industries, Akron. Veteran of the 1st Cavalry, National Guard of New York During World War financed airplane Investigation which resulted in reorganization of Air Service.

      Was Chairman of Commission on industrial relations of National Republican Advisory Committee on Policies and Platform, also of industrial relations committee of National Republican Club. Special industrial commissioner to Europe for United States Government, 1919. Guest of French Government, 1919, in behalf of rehabilitation of devastated area.

      Special economic commissioner for United States Government to Great Britain, Czechoslovakia and Belgium, 1920, and was awarded honorary diploma Masarykova Akademia Prace, Prague, 1923. Presented to the City of Prague in 1928, the first statue erected in Czechoslovakia, of President Masaryk.
