    • Chemist United States Geological Survey, 1889-1892 and 1894-1903. Assistant professor inorganic chemistry, University of Chicago, 1892-1893. Associate chemist, Bureau of Standards, 1903-1909.

      Retired from chemical work, 1909. Founded The O.E. Library League and edits its organ, The O.E. Library Critic, in behalf of prison reform and aid to prisoners.
