    • Assistant engineer, State Board of R.R. Assessors, New Jersey, and later on preliminary location surveys for A.,T.&San Francisco R.R. in Kansas and Indiana Ty., 1884-1889. Assistant chief engineer, construction Long Island R.R., 1889-1897. Consulting practice, New York, 1897-1905.

      Construction engineering for E. H. Rollins & Sons, San Francisco, on various projects, 1905-1908, including Western Pacific Railroad. Report for Hirsch Syndicate, Ltd., London, on Valdez-Yukon R.R. project in Alaska. Chief engineer Clear Lake Power and Irrigation project, also the Trona Railway.

      Construction engineering San Francisco-Oakland Terminal Rys., Peoples Water Company, Los Angeles Railway Corporation General consulting practice, San Francisco, 1908-1917. Member Cattell, Howard & Ashton, 1917. Commissioned major, Engineer R.C., March 1, 1917.

      Ordered to active duty, December 28, 1917. At Camp Lee, Virginia, January 5-February 22, 1918. Staff duty Office Chief of Engineers, Washington, in charge of history unit, February 23, 1918-September 30, 1919.
