In private practice, largely in irrigation work, sewerage and drainage, 1887-1899, located at Sacramento and San Francisco.

      At work on river rectification and drainage problems as member Examining Commision on Rivers and Harbors of California, 1889-1890, and as construction engineering to commissioner of public works of California, 1893-1894. Member San Francisco Sewerage Commission, 1892-1893. City engineer, San Francisco, 1900-1904.

      Member Isthmian Canal Commission, 1904-1905. Construction engineering United States Reclamation Service, 1905-1907. In private practice as construction engineering, New York and San Francisco, 1907-1909.

      At San Francisco, since 1910. Now senior member C. E. Grunsky Company and acting director California Academy of Sciences. Author: Valuation, Depredation and the Rate-Base (with son), 1916.
