Ralph Modjeski, Polish civil engineer. Awarded John Scott medal (Philadelphia), 1924; John Fritz medal, 1930; Washington Award, 1931; Knight Legion of Honor (France). Member firm Modjeski & Noble, chief engrs. of bridge over Mississippi River at Thebes, Illinois; member of the board engrs. Quebec Bridge (reconstruction), new Memphis (Tennessee) Bridge.
Came to the United States with mother, 1876. Name changed to Modjeski. For American naturalization, his mother being the celebrated tragedienne, Helen Modjeska.
Graduated from College des Ponts et Chaussees, Paris, at head of class, with honors. Doctor of Engineering, University of Illinois, 1911, Pennsylvania Military College, 1927, Polytechnic Institute of Lwow (Poland), 1930.
