      Engaged in water supply and irrigation engineering, Covington, Kentucky and Kern County, California, 1888-1893. Professor civil engineering, 1894-1912, professor pure and applied mathematics, 1912-1921, professor applied mechanics and structural engineering, since 1921, dean School of Engineering, since 1895, Vanderbilt University.
