      Inherited father’s title, 1602, became member Privy Council. Grantee of 2d charter of Virginia Company of London. Member of council of Virginia Company, 1609.

      Appointed 1st governor and captain general of Virginia, 1610. Arrived in Jamestown (Virginia) in time to stop colonists from leaving for lack of supplies, 1610. Supervised construction of 3 forts at Jamestown, 1610.

      Sailed for West Indies for health, 1611, returned to England after being blown off course. Sailed for Virginia again, 1618. Author: The Relation of the Right Honorable the Lord De-la Warr, Lord Governour and Captaine General of the Colonie planted in Virginia, 1611.
