    Member of New York Colonial Assembly from Orange County, 1759-1769. Member 1st, 2d continental congresses, 1774-1777, signed non-importation agreement. Member of New York Provincial Congress, 1775-1777.

    Member of New York Senate, 1777-1782. Member committee of eight (appointed by New York Provincial Convention) to confer with General Putnam concerning new defenses on Hudson, 1778, resulted in West Point fortifications. Member 1st board regents University State New York, 1784-1787.

    Member of New York Constitutional Convention, 1788, voted against adoption of the United States Constitution because distrustful of delegating so much power to federal govt.
