    • At least 2 children, Nathaniel Beverley, Henry St. George. Admitted to Virginia bar. Served as colonel Chesterfield County (Virginia) Militia, lieutenant colonel Virginia Cavalry, during Revolutionary War.

      Served at Battle of Guilford Court House, took part in siege of Yorktown. Commissioner Annapolis Convention, 1786. Judge of General Court of Virginia, 1788-1800.

      Professor of law College William and Mary, 1800-1803. Judge Supreme Court of the Appeals of Virginia, 1803-1811. Judge The United States of America District Court for Virginia, 1813-1828.

      His opinion in Kamper versus Hawkins (1 Virginia Reports, 20) held that state constitution was sovereign act of people, opinion in Turpin versus Locket (6 Call Reports, 113) sustained constitutionality of 1802 act for relief of poor. Author: Dissertation on Slavery: with a Proposal for its Gradual Abolition in Virginia (pamphlet). 1796, reprinted, 1861.

      Published annotated edition of Blackstone’s Commentaries, 5 vols., 1803. Liberty, a Poem on the Independence of America, 1788, The Probationary Odes of Jonathan Pindar, 2 parts, 1796.
