    • In 1841 entered ship-broker’s office, Glasgow, Scotland. Went to sea, 1842, and made several voyages in East India and China trade. Came to the United States, 1846, and joined brother at storekeeping in Jefferson Company, O.

      Returned to Ireland, 1858, to settle an estate, and was engaged as land agent by several proprietors. Returned to the United States, 1872, and was secretary Eagle Manufacturing Company of Davenport, Iowa, for 12 years American consul at Cork since October 1, 1897.
