    • Transportation agent, Cumberland Valley R.R. at Hagerstown, Maryland., 1861. Sent by Colonel Thomas A. Scott, 1865, to look after latter’s landed interests in Southern California, where has since resided. Largely interested in lands and in development of oil industry.

      United States senator, 1900-1905.
