    • Engaged in manufacturing. Took out his 1st patent, 1880, and developed a large business. Among his inventions are a packer for natural gas and oil wells, a rubber coupling to make a tight joint in natural gas pipes, and an insulating coupling to prevent leakage of electricity from conduits.
