Became captain 1st Alabama Union Cavalry with Kilpatrick. Mustered out as captain and a. a. general with Corse at end of war, 4th div., 15th corps. Bvtd. major After war in newspaper work with Carlinville (Illinois) Democrat, and Chicago Evening Post.
In 1878 founded Fargo (N. Dak.) Daily Argus, and became editor of that paper and its successor, the present Fargo Forum. President Forum Printing Company Was warden Illinois Penitentiary, 1870-1873. Director Dak. (territorial) Penitentiary and Chairman of the Board.
